Method #1 Make openwebif and streamer public (need much much upload bandwidth)
Forward port 80 and 8080 from router to stb ip; give openwebif https and user/pwd access; make a robust root pwd of busybox; connect with VLC or other stb software (vuplayer, androiddreamer etc..) to you external public ip; in case make a dyndns alias for hostname connect

Method #2 Make 1 single channel public (you can edit your settings for bandwith with x264 config inside vlc, from low band to medium/high band)
Restream 1 channel with a pc and vlc to an http stream on tcp/udp port XXX; forward port XXX from router to pc with vlc; connect a mediaplayer to you public ip XXX port and watch channel; same as before for dyndns fast hostname connect

Method #3 VPN
Do a private access via OpenVPN for Method #1

A little correction:
You will need to foward to port 80/443 (Openwebinterface/https) and port 8001 (Streaming)or 8002 (Transcoding).

But VPN is deinitely perferrable because of sreasons.
With VPN, you use your local settings without a change.

Just last week another box was hacked. It is not recommended or rather kind of dangerous as well as stupid to use your webinterface outside your lan without VPN.

Yes, sorry, ports are 80/443(ssl) and 8001/8002, my mistake.

And YES, VPN is the only secure METHOD!!! All tcp external ports are at risk, always, webservers first of all!!!

Since VU+ manages OpenVPN, this is the only secure method...

I had install “OpenVpn “and “Private Tunnel” but do not know how to make the connection to the box so that I can view the recorded movies in my box.
