HowTO
1 Image VU´DUO and other
1 USB with Swap 128 Megas

Uninstall ( If you have ) plugin E2 Free Memory
Place file attachament /etc ( attribute file = 644 )
Reboot Box

Flash is at 85% important .

This file force Data and inodes caches from RAM at Swap .
Start up RAM is 97 or 98% , please uses plugins , record , etc ... after 10 minutes reduce RAM .

Modify the parameters for machines with small RAM por example VU+DUO and other ...
After ago 20 days , i have good machine with reponse all moment . My Swap only 128 Megas , good reponse . Everiday RAM on my Vu+DUO uses only find at 41% ....

I have never seen any issues with low RAM on my DUO although I have the box run all sorts of RAM intensive applications. Have you ever experienced low RAM issues? If so, what kind of applications have caused the low reponse behavior?

My Vu+DUO working if nessesafy only une Cam and channels defautf with 30% RAM .

My VU+DUO i have 2 tuners SAT and 2 DTT Terrestial y and have more plugins find at 86% flash . With E2FreeMemory my Swap file not working . This plugins it kills drop_caches , is bad ... Drop_Caches is good for Kernel discution exchange RAM or Swap .

One example 4 (four) records 2 SAT and 2 DTT always , this records freezing ...

With my solutions 4 records always , fine and not freezing ....
Posible my Swap 128 Megas something must do? jejejeje .

Sure this parameters for always…

Soory friend not reasson images uses Swap if not working never . All images equal ¿ or not ?

Sp you are saying when 4 records are running, possibly with CAM decryption, you have freezers. With the modified chache strategy your box does not freeze.

Did I understand this correctly?

@manba: Ich schreib mal in Deutsch: Hab's grad mal ausprobiert. Was ich festgestellt habe bis jetzt ist, daß der Swap auf dem Stick genutzt wird. War vorher nur bei ca. 600, egal was ich gemacht habe. Momentan 3 Records am laufen, Swap ist bei ca. 50000. Ob's was bringt? Hmm, ich hatte bis jetzt noch keine Freezer bei Records, aber hab auch nicht so extrem aufgenommen (4 gleichzeitig).

Now I try in English

I've testet yet. I recognize, that the Swap on USB will be used. Befor I wrote te two Lizes in sysctl.conf, Swap was on ~ 600, doesn' matter what I was doing. After it and 3 Records parallel, Swap ist at ~ 50000. I didn't had Freezers bevore, but I'm not recording so extremly (4 parallel).

I am not saying I don't believe you.

I am trying to understand what the benefit of your software is, simply because I never ever expierienced RAM capacity issues with my VU+ oder DM800. It may will be the swapping is somewhat optimized with your method, but since my E2 so far never froze nor did I ever have swapping activated on my mipsel box, I am asking.

So, heute vormittag hat ich das ja remote getestet, da ich @work war.

Heute abend hab ich bemerkt, daß bei nur einer laufenden Aufnahme auf Sky Cinema HD der Spinner kam, als ich CoolEPG aufgerufen habe. Habs eben mal wieder zurückgestellt und neu gestartet. Jetzt wieder eine Aufnahme auf Cinema HD am laufen und EPG kommt sofort.

Wie's jetzt mit diesen vielen parallelen Aufnahmen aussieht, weiß ich nicht. Mir ist es auf jeden Fall wichtiger - auch wegen WAF - daß die Box verzögerungsfrei reagiert.

Swap liegt wieder unterhalb von 600.

Naja ... genau das frage ich mich ja auch. Wozu swappen, wenn es nichts zu swappen gibt.

Mir ist schon aufgefallen, dass E2 sehr viel Memory allokiert (>100MB), wenn die Box ein paar Wochen nicht neu gebootet wird. Aber einen Freezer hatte ich noch nicht.

Seh ich auch so. Vor allem: Swap war zwar gefüllt, aber es war trotzdem nicht mehr RAM frei. Hab das Gefühl, es wird "blind" ausgelagert und dann dauert's natürlich länger, wenn andauernd vom langsamen Stick wieder nachgeladen werden muß.

Hatte wie gesagt bisher auch keine Probs mit Freezern. Ich behalt das mal im Hinterkopf, falls ich mal Extremaufnahming mache und es da hakt.

youre freezes arive from a different issue but not from ram
you're cam / softcam, probably CCcam starts many pids when decoding channels set for recording
you can log this in a console (telnet)

Hi,
perhaps we should talk about the subject seriously without him. What about expanding ram at almost no cost?

The trick is compcache and its rather old. I had a similar program running on W95. The trick is that a cache/swap is created in RAM. Sounds ridiculous but it isn´t. The trick is that this cache is compressed. You gain around 50% of the cache size as extra memory and the cost is that it is a bit slower than the rest of the ram BUT when this cache is swapped because you need even more memory you gain speed again because you only have to read 50-60% of what you want/need from the hard drive.

C´t wrote an article a few month ago and this trick is quite popular on some Android handies.
